February 3rd, 2012
Would you like to help seniors navigate the challenges of Medicare? In February, the Southeast Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability will host a FREE three-day training session for volunteers wishing to become certified Medicare counselors.
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) trains volunteers to provide free and objective counsling and assistance.Topics covered will include understanding original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, differentiating between private insurance options, learning about programs for low-income people, and how to volunteer in your community.
After completing the training program, each volunteer is asked to commit to providing information counseling, consumer guidance, and community outreach each month throughout the 10 counties in Southeast Tennessee. SHIP locations are set up throughout the area, and counselors can choose a location that is convenient for him or her.
If you would like to reserve your spot in the training offered February 29 through March 2, please contact Tommy Preston at tpreston@sedev.org or 423-424-4252.
